With each passing day, people are finding new therapeutic uses of hemp oil. Few are more exciting than the use of hemp oil for sleep problems. A shocking 30 percent of the population reports regular sleep disturbances, and ten percent suffer from resulting daytime functional impairment consistent with insomnia.
A laundry list of medical conditions are associated with lack of sleep, and listening to this podcast with sleep scientist and author of Why We Sleep Matthew Walker should convince you that a good night’s rest is up there in importance with good diet and regular exercise.
The only problem? Many natural remedies have little or no scientific evidence backing up their claims. Prescription sleep aids, meanwhile, are habit forming and can have side effects that outweigh the benefits.
That’s why people are turning to full spectrum hemp oil for sleep problems. Numerous studies are underway, but the results of the few completed studies, plus mounds of anecdotal evidence, has been extremely promising.
Why use hemp oil for sleep troubles?
Studies have shown that full spectrum hemp oil increases overall sleep amounts and reduces insomnia symptoms in people suffering from chronic pain.
That’s probably because full spectrum hemp oil naturally interacts with the endocannabinoid system and create changes in the activity of hormones and neurotransmitters in the brain, specifically serotonin receptors and GABA receptors.
The former, serotonin, plays a critical role in anxiety and mood while the latter, GABA, is known as the inhibitory neurotransmitter because it calms excess activity in the brain and encourages relaxation.
